Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

I have read this book 10 years ago, and I can still recall the details. This is the book that I have used for a book review when I was still in high school. I have noted some quotes when I was reading it.

Here are some of the quotes:

“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! — When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.”

“Angry people are not always wise.”

“Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.”

“I must learn to be content with being happier than I deserve.”

“To be fond of dancing was a certain step towards falling in love”

“You must learn some of my philosophy. Think only of the past as its remembrance gives you pleasure.”

“My good opinion once lost is lost forever.”

“We are all fools in love”

“The distance is nothing when one has a motive.”

“Nothing is more deceitful,” said Darcy, “than the appearance of humility. It is often only carelessness of opinion, and sometimes an indirect boast.”

“We do not suffer by accident.”

“If I had ever learnt, I should have been a great proficient.”

“The more I see of the world, the more am i dissatisfied with it; and everyday confirms my belief of the inconsistencies of all human.”

“Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance.”

“There are very few who have heart enough to be really in love without encouragement”

“Every impulse of feeling should be guided by reason; and, in my opinion, exertion should always be in proportion to what is required.”

Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe

These are some of my favorite quotes from Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart.

“If you don’t like my story, write your own”

“A child cannot pay for its mother’s milk.”

“When a man is at peace with his gods and ancestors, his harvest will be good or bad according to the strength of his arm.”

“There is no story that is not true, […] The world has no end, and what is good among one people is an abomination with others.”

“When the moon is shining the cripple becomes hungry for a walk”
